Mark Finlay Ulster Unionist Candidate for the Assembly Election in South Belfast expressed concern following news that a 36-year-old Polish worker has fallen four storeys from a window whilst undertaking cleaning duties, as his employer prepared to hand over a new apartment development at the junction of Ulsterville Avenue and Belfast’s Lisburn Road.
It is understood that the man in question has worked for Mascott Construction for over four years and was preparing to leave Northern Ireland with his girlfriend and child. The development by Deramore is of one-bedroom apartments.
Mark Finlay reports “I have spoken to one of the Directors of the company who had just returned from the hospital. The man in question is understood to have suffered multiple injuries, but incredibly to have survived a fall from over 35-feet.”
"I understand the gentleman has damaged his spleen and has neck and spinal injuries, but I am told he is speaking and has moved his fingers and toes."
"Site safety has to be the top priority in the construction sector. The contractor in question has an excellent reputation and has become one of the most active in Northern Ireland in recent years."
"The man in question and his family, friends and colleagues are in my thoughts and prayers."
